This month we are celebrating UV Safety Awareness Month in Macon-Bibb. Mayor Lester Miller presented a proclamation to Atrium Health Navicent. You can read it here.

Ultraviolet (UV) light is an invisible type of radiation that comes from the sun, tanning beds, and sunlamps UV rays can damage skin cells and can cause eye and skin cancers.

The goal of this month is to spread awareness about how important it is to protect eyes and skin from the side effects of UV rays and to remind all this month the connection between unprotected exposure to UV light and cancers that occur in the eyes, lips and skin. People who get too much UV light exposure can also develop a weakened immune system causing their bodies to have a harder time fighting off infections.
