On Friday, July 7th the Elaine H. Lucas Senior Center held its 3rd Annual Splash Bash to welcome new members and back existing members.

“This is a way to come together, have various members across Macon-Bibb County come together and tailgate like football season and have some good food and celebrate and enjoy some water,” said Senior Center Supervisor Andrea Lee.

“I joined last month and this is my first day here,” said new member Dewitt Holland. “I love it so far. I always wanted to be a member and I’m so glad I did.”

Groups of members set up their own tables with food and drinks, like a tailgate. They got to participate in water activities and listen to live music. This year, the Senior Center was featured on the VIBEAT 2023 Summer Tour, which is a jazz band that travels throughout the country performing at local senior facilities. They listened and danced to live jazz music.

“It’s to bring our seniors out and be in one area where they can enjoy themselves, be with their peers have a good time, and have fellowship. I think that it’s very good for them to be able to interact with each other and with the staff to build a bond and feel connected. Overall, we want it to be beneficial for their mental well-being as well,” said Senior Center Coordinator Elricia Smith.

The Center is currently accepting new members for a fee of $10 per fiscal year. You can sign up by going to the Center located at 132 Willie Smokie Glover Drive.
