Macon Mental Health Matters (MMHM) is taking its monthly Pop-Up Gym to the South Bibb Recreation Center (7035 Houston Rd) for the first time on Saturday, July 8. This Gym will feature a few new opportunities for everyone in the family.

The Gym is from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., rain or shine, with its usual yoga, drum circle, and meditation. There will also be a car show provided by several car clubs in the area.

District 7 Commissioner Bill Howell is also joining the fun by bringing his Saturday Morning Breakfast Club to the Center to serve a free breakfast starting at 10:00 a.m.

“Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and the Breakfast Club gives us an opportunity to feed many who may not typically be able to have breakfast on the weekends,” says Commissioner Howell. “Part of having healthy mental health, is knowing you’re going to have your next meal. I’m excited to partner up with Macon Mental Health Matters and the other organizations who are making this happen. The car show is also a great bonus.”

People will also get to take food home with them, thanks to a donation from the Society of St. Andrew and the Melanated Community Stimulation Project, Inc. The People and Pets Project is joining once again to provide free healthcare for both ends of the leash.

“We are so excited about this month’s Gym as it’s the first time we bring it to the South Bibb Recreation Center, and it’s going to be big,” says MMHM Coordinator Andrea Cooke. “We love that this concept keeps growing as many more organizations want to be part. Together, we are shaping and nourishing the minds of many in our community.”

MMHM has been holding Pop-Up Gyms throughout the community since 2021. They happen every second Saturday of the month, rain or shine. You can learn more about MMHM and other opportunities by following its Facebook page or visiting its website.
