On Monday, January 15, 2024, Macon-Bibb County, with the MLK Commission and other partnering agencies, will celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday with several events. The celebration will begin with a breakfast at 8:00 a.m. held by the MLK Breakfast Committee at the Tubman African American Museum (310 Cherry Street) at 8:00 a.m.

That will be followed by the annual MLK March at 11:00 a.m. People from all over the community will begin their march from four different locations: Booker T. Washington Community Center (401 Monroe Street), Memorial Gym (2465 Second Street), Rosa Jackson Recreation Center (1211 Maynard Street), and Frank Johnson Recreation Center (2227 Mercer University Drive). All marches from each direction will meet up at City Hall by 12:00 p.m.

Steward Chapel AME Church (887 Forsyth Street) will hold a ceremony immediately following the march. There will also be a block party by Macon Black Culture from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. with music, food, and bounce houses for children at Rosa Parks Square.

You can get involved by attending events or by hosting your own. To see the calendar, and sign up to host an event, visit the website at www.MaconBibb.us/MLK.

Macon-Bibb County will observe Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday as a holiday and all government offices, including the court system and Convenience Center at 11th Street, will be closed. Emergency services will remain active, and trash and recycling/bulk pick up will not be affected.
