Macon – A 34-year-old Macon man was sentenced to prison on Wednesday after he pleaded guilty to having sex with a 12-year-old girl.
Taurean Dennardo Pitts pleaded guilty to child molestation and statutory rape during a hearing in Bibb County Superior Court. A judge sentenced him to serve 30 years, 20 of them in prison. After his release from prison, Pitts must abide by sex offender terms of probation.
If the case had gone to trial, Chief Assistant District Attorney Nancy Scott Malcor would have presented evidence that Pitts had engaged in sex acts with the girl, including intercourse, in January 2017. The conduct was reported to authorities in March 2017.
When interviewed by an investigator, Pitts admitted having sex with the girl although he said he couldn’t remember her name.
Speaking after Wednesday’s plea hearing, District Attorney David Cooke said, “What Mr. Pitts did was despicable. It’s a safe bet that Mr. Pitts will remember this young girl’s name as he spends his next 20 years behind bars.”
