The Macon-Bibb County Fire Department is asking the community to join them in the national Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters as part of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend from Thursday, May 2 – Sunday, May 5. All fire stations and Headquarters in Macon-Bibb will be lit red in some way on Saturday, May 4.

“Light the Night gives our department and our entire community the chance to show their appreciation for those we lost while they protected us,” says Fire Chief Shane Edwards. “The brave men and women of our Fire Department stand ready at all hours of the day and night to protect our community, and they deserve our thanks throughout the year.”

During this annual tribute organized by the National Fire Firefighters Foundation, all Macon-Bibb fire stations and Headquarters will be lit red on Saturday, May 4, to honor fallen firefighters locally and across the state and country. City Hall will be lit red from Thursday through Sunday. The pedestrian bridge over Mercer University Drive will also be lit red on Thursday and Saturday, May 2 and 4.

“We want to show the world that Macon-Bibb County, our home, appreciates these brave men and women and will never forget the sacrifices of those who have come before us, so please consider changing out your exterior lightbulbs for red ones this weekend,” asked Chief Edwards. “It will mean so much to so many to see our community lit up red.”
