On Friday, July 28, a retirement celebration was held at the Macon-Bibb County Courthouse for Chief Judge Howard Sims for his years of dedicated service. Family, friends, and fellow colleagues all came together and hailed his tremendous service for justice.

“I feel like a kid on the last day of school,” said Judge Sims with excitement.

Judge Sims is retiring as the Chief Judge from the Macon Judicial Circuit Supreme Court for the State of Georgia, where he served for thirteen years. Prior to that, he served as a district attorney for nine years and as an assistant district attorney for twelve years.

Judge Sims received his bachelor’s degree at Mercer University in 1984 where he continued his education to complete his J.D. at the Walter F. George School of Law in 1988. After this, he pursued his career as a criminal prosecutor for a decade.

“My favorite part about all of these years was the people that I got to know and the people who I will always remember and think the world of,” said Judge Sims.

Judge Sims will be trading in his judge’s robe for his golf shoes and clubs, as he plans on dedicating as much time as possible to the game, playing on as many courses as possible.

Thank you for serving and being on Team Macon-Bibb, Judge Sims!
