Macon —  Bibb County grand jurors indicted a state prison inmate Tuesday on allegations he exposed his genitals, inappropriately touched a prison staffer and prevented the staffer from leaving a room.

Romel Smith, 38, an inmate at Georgia State Prison in Reidsville, was being held at Central State Prison in Macon on Aug. 11, 2017, when the incident allegedly occurred.

An indictment is a charging document issued by grand jurors if the group determines probable cause exists for the case to move forward toward trial.

Each defendant is presumed to be innocent unless and until they are proven guilty in a court of law.
