From Bike Walk Macon – In an effort to prioritize pedestrian safety during the Macon Christmas Light Extravaganza, Macon+Bibb County, the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, Bike Walk Macon, and NewTown Macon have partnered to temporarily close the 2nd and 3rd Street intersections of Poplar Street during the light show.

By closing these intersections, we’re creating a dedicated space for citizens to walk and enjoy the holiday lights without the need to navigate car traffic.

Details:

• 2nd and Poplar Street Closure: Daily from 4pm to 11pm, starting November 25, 2023, until January 3, 2024.

• 3rd and Poplar Street Closure: 24/7 closure from 2 pm on November 22, 2023, reopening by 10 am on January 4, 2024. Inbound and outbound lanes on Third Street at Poplar Street, along with 2 left-hand turn lanes on Poplar, will be closed.

These closures only affect the intersections on Poplar Street. We are in full support of this effort to ensure that pedestrians enjoying the light show have a safe experience.
