Commission appropriates more than $9 million in ARP funds for local agencies, initiatives

On Tuesday, October 3, our Commission unanimously approved spending up to $9.35 million in American Rescue Plan (ARP) funds to fund projects to help people in need, support local organizations and businesses adversely affected, and expand programs that will benefit the entire community.

Since 2021, Macon-Bibb County has used its allocation of ARP funds to help numerous agencies and organizations who distribute food, help businesses who are working to combat food insecurity, help with affordable housing, and more.

This new appropriation consists of up to: 

– $353,000 to the Communities in Schools of Central Georgia, Inc. to aid to impacted households addressing educational disparities; 

– $1,000,000 to be used to provide funding 

to Atrium Health Navicent for health initiatives. including indigent care and trauma care; 

– $1,000,000 the Middle Georgia Regional Airport to provide for a Minimum Revenue Guarantee (“MRG”) to attract additional carriers or support additional routes; 

– $1,000,000 to be used for the provision of community violence interruption services; 

– $3,000,000 to be used to provide funding to Visit Macon, Inc. as aid to the tourism industry; and 

– $3,000,000 to help remove more blighted and dangerous structures in our community.
