Macon-Bibb Makes it Easier
to Report Residential Code Violations, Address Blight Issues

Macon-Bibb County, as part of its effort to better engage the public in improving neighborhoods, is again expanding the use of its mobile service request application, SeeClickFix. Now people can report residential code enforcement violations such usabandoned/junk vehicles, a burned house, abandoned/dilapidated houses, and yard and vacant lot issues directly to inspectors in the Business Development Services Department. Through SeeClickFix and email, the person reporting the issues will be notified of the investigation and initial outcome.

“Blight in our neighborhoods is a serious concern for our entire community, and it’s going to take us all working together to turn around the decline and neglect we see on so many streets,” says Macon-Bibb County Mayor Robert Reichert. “With SeeClickFix, people can help us identify issues and big and small that we can address. By actively engaging the community, we can improve every street and neighborhood in Macon-Bibb County.”

“Having the ability to easily report possible residential code enforcement violations is something the public has long been asking for so they can help us identify and attack blight,” says Business Development Services Director Tom Buttram. “With SeeClickFix, we’ll be able to better identify issues in our neighborhoods and work with people to get them corrected.”

Customer Service is currently working with Traffic Engineering on the next set of services to be added to SeeClickFix. This includes requesting: a study for the installation of a crosswalk; signs indicating the presence of deaf and blind children; hidden driveway signs; and stop signs, speed signs, and traffic signal studies.

Requests can be made and issues reported via Macon-Bibb County’s website and/or a free mobile application available on iPhone, Android, and Blackberry smartphones. People without online or mobile capabilities can report issues by calling Customer Service at 478-751-7400. SeeClickFix should only be used to report non-emergency issues; if a situation is an emergency, dial 9-1-1.

In September, 1,047 service requests were opened using SeeClickFix, and of the ones that were resolved in the month, 86% were within 10 days. A full report for September of the types of issues submitted, as well as from which Districts they were reported, is attached with this announcement. About SeeClickFix
SeeClickFix is a place-based reporting platform which allows residents to document neighborhood concerns and improvements alike, ranging from litter to damaged sidewalks to missing garbage carts. Using this real-time, online reporting system can increase productivity, efficiency, and transparency for many city services and departments.

SeeClickFix is very user-friendly, utilizing drop down selection menus and simple clarifying questions. When submitting issues via mobile app, for example, residents can select from a list of issues and provide a description, including location and picture. Once the resident submits an issue, anyone ‘watching’ the area will receive an alert. Representatives in the departments can then acknowledge the service request, route it to the person, and update the request—and residents following the issue—once it’s been resolved.

About the Office of Public Affairs

Working together, these three functions are part of a two-way communication program designed to educate the community about improvement efforts by Macon-Bibb and partner organizations, and provide a way for people to provide feedback and have their questions answered and concerns addressed.
