Sweeping through a cleaner community

Our Parks and Beautification Department are going the extra mile to make sure Macon-Bibb County provides a cleaner atmosphere and first impression. They started off the new year by street sweeping and cleaning all non-county-owned bridges and gateways in our community. 

“Our bridges and gateways are the first thing our visitors see when they come into our community,” said Mayor Lester Miller. “We need to make sure these areas are clean and stay clean. We don’t want the mess to be a representation of our community. We’re better than that. We are so thankful for our Parks and Beautification Department for stepping up and taking care of this issue.” 

The Macon Water Authority (MWA) street sweeps all county-owned bridges and will do so quarterly in March, June, September, and December. The Parks and Beautification Department will tackle every state-owned bridge during the same times of the year. 

“We started sweeping the state-owned bridges in December and it took us a few weeks to get all 37, ,” said Parks and Beautification Department Director Michael Glisson. “I am very proud of our crew for adding this to their list of tasks. We know Clean Streets Matter, and we’ll continue doing what we can to make this a cleaner community.”
