On Thursday, December 14, Macon-Bibb County held its regular Mayor’s Council of Clergy Luncheon at the Delores A. Brooks Community Center. At this month’s meeting, the homily was brought by Dr. I. Edwin Mack of Unionville Missionary Baptist Church and comments were made by Sheriff David Davis, Judy Gordon, and Joshua Hale.

The Sheriff gave an overview on what the Department is working on and recent statistics, those including the criminal homicide rate being down by 42% and the aggravated assault rate being down by 22% compared to last year.

“You as a community have made that difference,” said Sheriff Davis. “And we need to continue to come together to make that happen.”

“It’s been very important to Mayor Miller and his administration to regularly meet with religious leadership to discuss various issues and potential solutions and resources,” said Dr. Henry Ficklin, Executive Director of Community Affairs. “This is a great opportunity to have them in the room asking questions and learning more about what each congregation is doing or can be doing to improve our community.”

The Council typically meets every other month to give our local faith leaders an opportunity to discuss issues facing their congregants and the community at large. They also have the chance to talk with other ministers and organizations aimed at promoting peace and justice in our community.
