On Tuesday, October 31, Rose Hill Cemetery held a ribbon cutting ceremony for its new kiosk and map at the entrance of the cemetery. The ceremony was live streamed, and you can watch it here.

The $80,000 kiosk was funded through the Community Foundation of Central Georgia (CFCG) with private donations and Macon-Bibb County. It was made to look like a smaller replica of the original building at the entrance of the cemetery and features a map of the entire cemetery. The details on the map will help people understand the layout of where they are, as well as provide information about the notable people buried there through a QR code.

“We wanted to provide a place for people who have never visited the cemetery before, or don’t know much about its history to get all the information they need,” says Project Manager Bill Causey. “This has been two years in the making, and we are so excited to finally share it with our community and visitors.”

The map is also part of a bigger walking tour for people who visit the cemetery. Rose Hill Rambles typically take place throughout the year where people get to go on guided walking tours throughout the cemetery. Now, people will be able to take those tours on their own time with more than 20 QR codes placed on the property that take you to videos about certain spots you are standing in.

“Rose Hill Cemetery is a staple in our community, with 50 acres of history, art, nature, and stories,” said Mayor Lester Miller. “And because of this kiosk, and the self-guided walking tour, you’ll be able to hear more of those stories, and people who visit us from across the world will be able to learn about the history here and those buried here.”

You can check out the new kiosk and walking tour any time the Cemetery is open between 7:00 a.m. and 8:30 p.m.
