After nearly four decades with the City of Macon and Macon-Bibb County, our Risk Manager Karen Pennycuff is retiring from her position. During her role as manager, she has overseen managing the overall function of our Risk Management and Worker’s Compensation Program.

“For many of us, today is a very sad day because we are saying goodbye to one of Macon-Bibb’s most beloved and respected employees. Mrs. Karen Pennycuff wasn’t just a hard worker, caring friend, and reliable co-worker. She has been the one to put smiles on our faces and to make us laugh on even the rainiest of days.,” said Human Resources Director Derrick Jordan. “On behalf of the Macon-Bibb County Government and the Department of Human Resources, we wish Mrs. Karen Pennycuff a very happy and pleasant retirement and many more years of joy and happiness.”

Karen holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Risk Management and Insurance from the University of Georgia. She served as Internal Auditor and then Risk Manager for the City of Macon. She holds a Certified Workers’ Compensation Professional certificate and Georgia Workers’ Compensation License and is a qualified National Safety Council Defensive Driving Instructor.

She has been the heartbeat of the City of Macon and County for 39 years and will be missed dearly. Her Human Resources Department held a celebration for her on Thursday, April 13, before her last day. She was joined her family and was overjoyed by the amount of people who showed up to celebrate her.

“I just want to thank y’all for all the years y’all put up with me. The hardest part is leaving this family,” Karen told the room. “Y’all have meant so much to me, and I hope I’ve meant as much to y’all. You are all of my family.”

Thank you for your commitment to #TeamMaconBibb, Karen! Wishing you all the best in this new chapter!
