Our very own Sherita Sims-Jones, Budget and Grants Manager, was selected to join a Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Committee. After applying, Sims-Jones was chosen to be on the national association’s Governmental Budgeting and Fiscal Policy Committee, one of only six members chosen from across the country.

The Committee serves as a forum for exchanging information about emerging issues, concepts, and techniques in public budgeting and management. It promotes the professionalism of budget practitioners through the development of best practices and researching various initiatives.

“This has helped me learn to accept and appreciate my work ethic and give myself credit for actually knowing and doing as much as I do,” said Sims-Jones. “It means growth in so many ways for me, especially in bringing organizational change management to our organization and maybe simplifying, minimizing, and automating many of our budgeting processes.”

Sims-Jones will serve on the Committee for three years. She is hoping this experience will give her more in-depth knowledge of standards and best practices for our governmental budget and fiscal policy. She will also get the opportunity to learn from other agencies across the country and bring back what she has learned.
