Macon – An Illinois woman pleaded guilty to armed robbery Wednesday for her part in a Jan. 10, 2017, home invasion in north Macon’s Barrington Hall subdivision.
Jasmine Byrd, 23, was sentenced to 20 years, 13 of them in prison without the possibility of parole, as part of a plea agreement.
If the case had gone to trial, prosecutor John Regan would have presented evidence showing:
A woman was robbed at gunpoint by a man and a woman as she was getting out of her car in the garage of her Laurel Place home. Her husband tried to come to her aid, but he also was held at gunpoint.
The woman’s cash and debit card were taken. Investigators determined the debit card was used soon after the robbery.
An investigation identified 21-year-old Quatrell Jamar Spearman and Byrd as the robbers. Spearman was arrested Jan. 12, 2017, while Byrd was extradited from Illinois the following month.
Spearman pleaded guilty armed robbery in July and was sentenced to 20 years, 13 of them in prison.
Speaking after the hearing, Macon Judicial Circuit District Attorney David Cooke said, “No amount of money is worth the fear this innocent couple suffered in their own garage. All too often, what begins as an armed robbery goes further and lives are lost. I hope Ms. Byrd spends the next 13 years behind bars reflecting on the value of having a home, a sacred place to feel safe, and that she won’t violate that sanctity ever again.”
