Macon – Staff from the Macon Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office participated in four career day events this spring at Bibb County elementary and middle schools.
Prosecutors, victim advocates and support staff volunteered to man information tables at Williams Elementary in March and at Heard Elementary and Ballard Hudson Middle schools in May. They answered students’ questions about their careers and the education required to work in their fields.
Last week, assistant district attorneys Kyle Owenby and Ché Young talked with 4th and 5th graders at Union Elementary, rotating through classrooms answering questions ranging from what prosecutors do to how prosecutors use what they learned in school in their daily work.
Prosecutor April Herbert said she enjoyed volunteering at Heard Elementary, seeing the students’ enthusiasm as they asked questions about working at the District Attorney’s Office.
“It gives me hope for the future to see kids this young thinking about their future and what they can do to contribute to society,” Herbert said.
District Attorney David Cooke said, “I’m proud that our staff took time out of their busy schedules to inspire the next generation. We hope to participate in similar events next year.”
