Macon – A Macon teenager charged in a string of burglaries and two home invasion robberies was sentenced Wednesday to 20 years, 12 of them in prison.
Artez Maloy, 16, pleaded guilty to home invasion, false imprisonment and burglary during a hearing in Bibb County Superior Court.

On Nov. 28, 2016, an elderly man was inside his Triple Hill Drive home in south Macon when Maloy pointed a gun at him, demanding to know where he kept his guns. The man denied having any guns. Maloy rummaged through the house, taking jewelry and cash. Maloy then forced the man to drive him to the Bloomfield community where Maloy got out of the car and left.
About two weeks later, on Dec. 12, 2016, the same man awoke in his bed to find Maloy holding a machete to his throat. Maloy took the man’s jewelry and cash. Maloy forced the man to drive him to an abandoned house in south Macon. After Maloy left, the man drove to a nearby Waffle House to get help.
When he was arrested Jan. 19, 2017, Maloy had a pistol he’d taken during one of the burglaries.
He admitted burglarizing five houses on Pinedale and Greenleaf drives and Village Green Lane – two of them twice – between November 2016 and January 2017.
Investigators found stolen items from the Triple Hill home invasions and home burglaries in local pawn shops.
Speaking after the hearing, Macon Judicial Circuit District Attorney David Cooke said, “Everyone in our community should be able to go to bed at night secure in the belief that they are safe at home. Anyone who invades that sacred space should expect to spend years in prison.”
Maloy, who was 14 and 15 at the time of his crimes, was sentenced as a first offender. If he successfully completes his sentence, he won’t have a felony record. If he violates terms of his sentence, he could be resentenced to up to 50 years.
Cooke said, “Had Mr. Maloy not been a juvenile at the time of his offense, his sentence would have been significantly longer.”
