Macon – A Wisconsin man was sentenced to two years in prison Thursday after he pleaded guilty to repeatedly punching a Bibb County deputy last year while refusing to get off a Greyhound bus.
Dameko Marsa Hollis Jr., 24, of Milwaukee, pleaded guilty to obstruction of an officer during a hearing in Bibb County Superior Court.
If the case had gone to trial, prosecutor Dorothy Hull would have presented evidence showing:
Deputy Lee Rohrbach was dispatched to the Greyhound Bus terminal on Spring Street on June 12, 2017. Hollis and a woman had been instructed by an employee to get off the bus and had refused.
Rohrbach went onto the bus and Hollis ignored his repeated instructions to get off the bus. When the deputy tried to place Hollis in handcuffs Hollis punched him in the face multiple times.
Speaking after the hearing, Macon Judicial Circuit District Attorney David Cooke said, “Law enforcement officers put their lives and safety on the line every day to keep us safe. Anyone who assaults one of them should expect to go to prison.”
