Macon – A 61-year-old Warner Robins man was sentenced Wednesday to 15 years, five of them in prison, after pleading guilty this summer to sending sexually explicit emails attempting to solicit sex with a person he believed to be a 14-year-old girl.
Timothy Charles Strickland pleaded guilty July 5 in Bibb County Superior Court to one count of computer pornography and child exploitation and one count of criminal attempt to commit a felony. While on probation, Strickland must abide by sex offender conditions.
If the case had gone to trial, evidence would have shown that Strickland responded to a Craig’s List advertisement posted by undercover police officers as part of a sting operation in March 2015. He then sent emails in efforts to arrange what he thought would be a threesome with a 14-year-old girl and her father. Strickland was arrested at a local motel when he arrived for a meeting with the girl and her father.
Speaking after the hearing, Macon Judicial Circuit District Attorney David Cooke said, “It’s illegal for a grown man to have sex with an underage girl. Anyone who attempts to do that should expect to go prison.”
